In Mpigi Town, three determined rural women have set up a bakery social business with a mission to address financial dependence among teenage mothers. By offering these young women employment opportunities and practical skills in baking and entrepreneurship, they empower them to earn a living and regain their independence. The bakery uses its profits to fund training programs that teach financial literacy and small business management, fostering long-term self-reliance. Through their initiative, the women are transforming lives, breaking the cycle of poverty, and promoting hope and resilience in their community.

The business produces organic fertilizers from poultry waste, which are distributed to local farmers to enrich soil health. Their initiative not only enhances agricultural productivity but also empowers women, creates local jobs, and promotes nutrition. Through collaboration and innovation, they are transforming poultry farming into a community-centered solution for environmental, economic and health challenges.

Matama Nutritional porridge is a social enterprise and the founder of Matama Nutritional Porridge, a business dedicated to addressing poor nutrition in Kavule community. This company produces a highly nutritious porridge made from locally sourced grains, fortified with essential vitamins and minerals. The porridge is designed to help children, pregnant mothers, and vulnerable individuals improve their health and well-being.
Problem & Solution
Problem: Malnutrition is a major challenge in Kavule, leading to stunted growth, weakened immune systems, and poor cognitive health, especially among children. Many families struggle to afford balanced meals, resulting in long-term health issues.
Solution: Matama Nutritional Porridge offers an affordable, easy-to-prepare, and highly nutritious alternative. By blending locally available grains like rice, maize, soybeans, the porridge provides essential proteins, carbohydrates, and vitamins needed for a healthy diet.
SESIMO Mpigi – Save Environment, Save Money.
This is a local initiative that went through cohort 5 acceleration program that took place in Nakabiso village located in Mpigi District, Uganda, dedicated to addressing environmental degradation and empowering vulnerable women through eco-friendly briquette production and skills development. SESIMO transforms agricultural waste into sustainable fuel alternatives, while creating life-changing economic opportunities for women and youth.
